CMA recently held its annual conference and industry awards in Sydney.

Blackmores Director of Product Innovation Paul Mannion has been elected president of the board at trade body Complementary Medicines Australia (CMA).

Past President, Dusko Pejnovic, CEO of Lipa Pharmaceuticals, has been appointed to the role of Vice President.

Carl Gibson, CEO of CMA said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul into his role as President of CMA. Paul’s knowledge of the industry is invaluable, as is his vision for the development of the complementary medicines sector and his deep understanding of the intersection between modern science and traditional medicine.”

“Paul joined the CMA Board in 2012 and, with a background in product development, regulatory and government affairs, clinical research, medical education and strategic planning, brings a broad range of commercial experience to the table.”

“We thank Dusko for his valuable contribution to the industry during his tenure as President and are delighted that he will remain an active member of the Board.”

Sector growth

CMA’s latest industry audit shows that complementary medicine is now a $4.9bn industry in Australia.

Gibson added: “Our exports go from strength to strength, and there is a growing acceptance of the benefits of our quality therapeutic complementary medicines as an element of preventive health.”

“CMA is excited about taking the industry forward, continuing in our work to ensure that consumers have access to locally manufactured, innovative and high quality products.”

Mannion, meanwhile, is one one of the keynote speakers at next week's Probiota Asia summit in Singapore, orgnaised by NutraIngredients-Asia.

CMA also recently held its annual conference and industry awards in Sydney, where the prestigious Lady Cilento Award for Lifetime Achievement went to the academic Henry Osiecki.

Gibson, said: “The Lady Cilento is the industry’s most prestigious award, recognising an industry leader who has made an outstanding and consistent contribution to the industry and the wider community.

“A pioneering contributor to the field of nutritional medicine, and now an internationally recognised leader in the nutritional field, for many years Henry Osiecki has made a significant contribution to the education of healthcare practitioners.

“Henry has had a long career as a university lecturer, his books are used as part of the curriculum for nutrition courses in Australia and New Zealand, he is widely published in scientific and other journals on nutritional topics, he has written numerous teaching courses, and in 2013, he launched an industry-first online learning portal for practitioners.

“Henry Osiecki is truly a well-deserving recipient of the Lady Cilento Award.”
