Omega-3
NutraIngredients, in conjunction with GOED, will be holding APAC's first ever omega-3 event in Singapore in February 2019, featuring renowned speakers from CSIRO, A*STAR, Japn National Cancer Centre, GOED and more.
To kick things off, BASF Human Nutrition's global marketing head, Goh Lay Kwan, talks about two key trends in APAC's omega-3 category: the use of omega-3 to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease (especially among older consumers), and personalised nutrition.
She goes on to emphasise the importance of omega-3 uptake — which is perhaps even more vital than intake in influencing omega-3 levels in the body — and how companies can innovate to increase the bioavailability and convenience of such supplements.
She also reveals some of the more promising branches of research stemming from the BASF Newtrition Asia Research Grant, including studies on plant sterols and cardiovascular health.
Next, Nature's Farm product manager Yong Wai Chin sheds light on the emerging trend of non-marine sources of omega-3, as well as the differences between these sources and the impact they have on human health.
She also shares her recommendations on how to optimise omega-3 consumption among the ageing population, including more convenient delivery formats and increased absorption rates.
Finally, Yong addresses common misconceptions about omega-3 in the region, and elaborates on how it can be combined with other nutritious ingredients to offer a wide range of health benefits for users of all ages.
