Peter Barraket, Managing Director, Designs for Health, Australia, will present on ‘Australia’s omega-3 success story and what it has to teach the rest of the world’.
Australia is among the world’s most developed consumer markets for health supplements and omega-3 is, without doubt, a leading product segment within it.
Peter, who has managed, bought and sold businesses in the health and supplements sector for close on two decades, looks back at what has fuelled Australian’s appetite for omega-3 and how the industry has built a multi-billion-dollar success story on a foundation of quality and innovation, within a regulatory framework that encourages consumer trust.
As well as forecasting the innovations, market shifts and challenges expected to shape the Australian market over the next decade, he’ll consider what emerging markets in Asia can take from Australia’s experience.
Peter began working in the health food and supplements industry over eighteen year ago, when he managed a number of profit improvement, merger and acquisition deals for Godman Fielder. He joined Blackmores, Australia’s largest vitamin and supplement business, as Corporate Development Manager in 2003, going on to become Chief Financial Officer and then Director for Australia.
In 2012 he moved to head up the supplements division for Vitaco and later became CEO of Mr Vitamins, for which he engineered a successful private equity sale. In addition to being Managing Director of Designs for Health in Australia, he now runs his own strategic advisory business Natural Core to advise participants in the natural products space.
He will be joined by fellow speaker Jennifer Wang, Chief Operating Officer at Nature’s Farm, a Sinapore-based brand and retailer with business across Asia.
Her presentation is titled ‘Omega-3 and the Asian consumer: Insights from a home-grown retailer’
She will discuss how awareness and demand is growing when it comes to omega-3 products across different health categories and applications in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the same time, a greater environmental consciousness has led more consumers to want to know where their supplements come from and how they are sourced.
As a prominent retailer of omega-3 supplements in APAC, Jennifer will shed some light on the following aspects of the industry:
- Popular health categories / applications for omega-3
- The level of consumer understanding, and how this influences purchasing behaviour
- The company’s sourcing criteria, and position on sustainability
Jennifer was appointed as Chief Operating Officer of Nature’s Farm in May 2017 and is in charge of the daily operation of Nature’s Farm. She has more than 20 years of experience in international business operations,
