Driving India's nutraceutical growth: New trade body launches website and names advocacy boards

India's recently formed Expert Nutraceutical Advocacy Council (ENAC) has launched its website and named its advocacy board members as it ramps up its mission to become an independent voice for the nutrition industry in the country.

Since securing registration from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in January, founder Sandeep Gupta has been driving membership growth and signing a number of MoUs with educational institutions in the country.

Gupta said the organision sought to educate regulators and consumers, while also driving industry knowledge and expertise through training and education.

"What I observed was there was no exclusive forum where people from a nutraceutical background could discuss common objectives,” said Gupta.

"There's a lot of scattered knowledge that should be brought together and put towards creating a uniform process, whereby all ENAC members can be represented equally before regulators to work towards harmonisation.

"India's nutraceutical industry is one of the world's fastest-growing, and the related available information must catch up with consumer demand. Our goal is not just to work amongst ourselves in India, but cooperate with industry internationally."

Full potential

This week, the organisation also launched its website, www.enacnetwork.com, and named its expert advisory panels.

NutraIngredients-Asia Editor-in-Chief and Regional Head: APAC at publisher William Reed, Gary Scattergood, has been appointed to the Global Executive Advocacy Board.

He said: “The efforts of Sandeep and his members to represent the industry, drive growth, increase education and foster international relations is highly commendable.

“It will be a pleasure to work with the association to help the thriving Indian industry reach its full potential.”

One of the major initiatives the ENAC will undertake is a nutraceutical-focused curriculum for college students in the pharmaceutical and life science fields, to thoroughly educate them in specific disciplines and help them in taking on specialisations within the industry.

Gupta said: "Whether it's sales, research, regulatory expertise, or technical operations, our goal is to help them become well aware of the subject matter.

"We will also be offering extensive training and workshops to those who are already professionals in the nutraceutical industry, so they will be up to date on policy and able optimise their businesses to benefit public interest."
