The New Zealand-based company was the winner of the start-up category at the NutraIngredients-Asia awards held in Singapore late last month.
Speaking to NutraIngredients-Asia at Vitafoods Asia, Jim Grierson, MD of the firm revealed its plans to expand its existing range of blackcurrant-based dietary supplements.
The new products will seek to provide digestive and respiratory health.
The firm, which was formed two years ago, had in fact started its research in the health benefits of blackcurrants as early as 2010.
One of its existing product, Brain Shield, is said to improve brain functions and reduce symptoms in patients suffering from Parkinson’s.
Grierson said that the component responsible for the benefits, was cyclic glycine proline (cGP) naturally found in abundance in New Zealand’s blackcurrants.
