PODCAST: Why Malaysian expert Dr Tee E-Siong has ‘never retired from nutrition work’

The nutrition discipline in South East Asia started relatively late, but one Malaysian expert has been active from the outset, clocking up almost 50 years of research experience and invaluable insights.

Dr Tee E-Siong, the guest for our fourth episode of Nutra Champion podcast, used to be a department head at the Malaysia’s Institute of Medical Research (IMR). Turning 73 years old this year, Dr Tee had retired from IMR in 2002, where he was the head of the Cardiovascular, Diabetes and Nutrition Research Centre.

In his field of work, he had contributed to nutrition research including community nutritional status and the nutritional value of foods as well as nutrition intervention strategies and food regulation.

Since retirement, he remains actively involved in nutrition advocacy work, heading the Nutrition Society of Malaysia and running his own consultancy firm.

‘I have retired from IMR, but I have never retired from nutrition work, some people say I am busier after my retirement,’ he told NutraIngredients-Asia.

Listen to find out more about his career, research and how the discipline in Malaysia has progressed.
