President and CEO Michael Nelson announced the above on November 23 during Amway China’s annual gala event.
This was also his first trip to China in his new capacity. Nelson, who joined Amway in 1992, took the helm from former CEO Milind Pant in September.
Amway currently operates two organic plant farms in the US, specifically in California and Washington State, as well as another two farms in Mexico and Brazil.
Botanicals grown from these farms are used in its Nutrilite brand of health supplement products.
The decision to build its fifth in Sichuan, China, is to further support its TCM products and Nutrilite line of products.
“I am very excited to announce that the founding families, the board of directors, has agreed to invest in Amway China’s first owned farm...
“The new farm will focus on the farming of Traditional Chinese Medicine, further enhancing the quality of the raw materials, and strengthening our Nutrilite value proposition.
“This will also support the development of our Traditional Chinese Medicine products – which have been proven to be a successful strategy for meeting the needs of all of your customers,” said Nelson.
Currently, Amway China also runs a Botanical Research Centre (ABRC) in Wuxi, which focuses on modernising TCM as well as plant extract research.
One of its research projects was the genome sequencing of chrysanthemum in order to further understand its medicinal properties.
One of the new launches from Amway China is Nutrilite iCell. This is a powdered beverage designed for supporting cellular health using plant extracts such as Indian gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica), aronia, and pomegranate.
At the gala event, president of Amway China Yu Fang said that the company, which has been present in China for nearly 30 years, achieved a revenue growth of seven per cent between FY23 and FY24.
This year, the number of its direct-sellers qualifying for leadership bonuses also hit a nine-year record high at 282, which is five per cent higher than 2023.
Nelson added that Amway has screened 40 different locations before deciding to build its organic farm in Sichuan.
“After nearly of two years of site assessments, screening 40 different locations across 25 cities, 10 provinces, the Sichuan province will be home to the first organic farm in China and the fifth farm for Amway...
“I know Amway China has a very bright future and I am confident we can maintain positive momentum and even greater growth in the future,” he said.
